Alex Albon will miss sprint qualifying in Canada after extensive damage to his Williams following a collision with a groundhog in FP1. Exiting the Turn 6-7 chicane, Albon struck the animal, sending his car hard into the wall. The incident at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, known for its wildlife encounters, left the left-hand side of the car severely compromised, requiring both a gearbox and power unit replacement. Williams confirmed the damage was far more extensive than initially believed, sidelining their driver.

This unlucky break for Albon also limits Williams’ data gathering ahead of Sunday’s Grand Prix. Compounding the issue, Liam Lawson also won't participate in sprint qualifying after a hydraulic leak forced his Racing Bulls out of FP1 early. Both teams now face a race against time to repair their cars for Saturday's sprint race and Sunday's main event, severely handicapping their chances to score points this weekend and leaving them without vital sprint session data.
