For the first time in 2026, the American flag flew above the Haas garage in parc fermé. Oliver Bearman's P7 — and Esteban Ocon's P10 a lap behind — gave the team its first double-points finish of the season and a much-needed eight-point haul.

It wasn't pretty. Haas qualified P14 and P16 on Saturday, looking like a midfield afterthought. But strategy chief Carine Cridelich called the team onto a one-stop in lap 12 — a full ten laps before the rest of the midfield committed — and the gamble paid off in spectacular fashion as track temperatures spiked and the McLarens cruised at the front.

BEARMAN'S BREAKOUT

The 21-year-old Briton — driving the seat once held by Kevin Magnussen — kept his nose clean through 57 laps and held off a recovering Fernando Alonso in the closing stages. It's his best result in F1 and a vindication of Haas's decision to invest in young talent over experience.

Bearman's pace in the second stint was, frankly, surprising. His average lap on the hard compound (1:35.412) was within four-tenths of Russell's Mercedes — a car that should be a full second quicker on race trim.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR THE STANDINGS

Haas climbs to P9 in the constructors' championship with 19 points, leapfrogging Sauber and putting daylight between themselves and fellow American newcomers Cadillac. With Miami three weeks away — and Bearman openly bullish about the upgrade package coming for round 6 — the team that started 2026 written off is suddenly the most interesting story in the midfield.

For the American fan, it's the kind of result that makes Sunday mornings worth setting an alarm for.
