Lance Stroll delivered a brutal assessment of his Aston Martin AMR26 after a Q1 elimination in China, calling it “the worst piece of shit I’ve ever driven.” Both Aston Martin drivers failed to make it out of the first qualifying session, with Fernando Alonso over a second off the cut-off and Stroll a further eight tenths behind him. Stroll battled severe handling issues throughout his laps, reporting "un-driveable" understeer and oversteer, compounded by locking brakes and snaps.

The team struggled to get his tires into the optimal temperature window on out-laps, a challenge exacerbated by new F1 engine regulations affecting battery management. While Alonso demonstrated a better knack for warming tires, Stroll's engineer urged him to push harder, which then compromised his battery energy, forcing significant lift-and-coast during his final flying lap. Despite finding some time on his last run, Stroll remained well behind his teammate, cementing his frustration. Aston Martin must address these fundamental handling and operational inconsistencies to give Stroll a fighting chance, or face continued lopsided results against Alonso.
