Red Bull Team Principal Laurent Mekies believes Mercedes holds a comfortable power unit advantage over the F1 field. Ahead of the FIA’s ADUO decision, Mekies places Mercedes clearly ahead, with Red Bull, Ferrari, and Audi grouped together behind them. This "Additional Development Opportunities" program allows manufacturers trailing by 2-4% to receive one extra upgrade and $3 million. A deficit over 4% provides two upgrades and $4.65 million.

Mekies states Red Bull Ford Powertrains has done an "extraordinary job" to be competitive, but claims their engine is consistently more than 2% behind Mercedes. This would qualify Red Bull and the entire trailing group for ADUO. Mercedes’ Toto Wolff, meanwhile, argues only Honda needs concessions, a claim Mekies agrees with regarding Honda specifically. The FIA will base its decision purely on performance data from the first six races, concluding with the recent Canadian Grand Prix. A ruling is expected before F1 arrives in Monaco, potentially shaking up the engine development landscape.
