Formula 1 will race without Active Aero at the Monaco Grand Prix, with cars locked into maximum downforce 'Corner Mode' for the entire weekend. The revolutionary 2026 system, which adjusts wing angles for low-drag 'Straight Mode' or high-grip 'Corner Mode', is being sidelined by the FIA for safety. Monaco's notoriously tight and twisty street circuit, with few genuine straights, doesn't meet the minimum duration or speed control requirements for Straight Mode activation zones.
However, the new Overtake Mode, replacing DRS, will still be in play. Drivers can utilize the electrical power boost to aid passing, with a detection point at Turns 16/17 and activation onto the main straight. An additional safety measure sees a 'Rev 1' engine map applied, limiting MGU-K power from 200 km/h instead of 290 km/h, further reining in speeds into critical corners. This puts an even greater emphasis on pure mechanical grip and driver precision for one of F1's most iconic races.
