McLaren plans to re-evaluate the upgraded front wing that both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri rejected at the Canadian Grand Prix. Despite shelving the new component during the sprint weekend, the team will run tests with it again in Monaco, seeking a better understanding of its performance.
The limited one-hour practice session in Canada, on a rapidly evolving "green" track, made proper evaluation impossible. Drivers also reported a lack of confidence with the new wing on the unique Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, where aggressive kerb use and braking confidence are paramount. Team Principal Andrea Stella confirmed the Canadian introduction was partly exploratory. The on-track behavior of the new wing failed to correlate with simulation data, a critical issue given the front wing's influence on overall car aerodynamics. McLaren needs to understand this deviation. Expect the team to run extensive tests in Monaco to correlate data and potentially integrate the upgrade permanently for future races.
