Audi's tyre gamble at the Canadian Grand Prix cost them any chance at points, as both Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto found their intermediate tire strategy backfiring early. With light rain falling pre-race, Audi, Cadillac, McLaren, and Carlos Sainz all started on inters, hoping for more precipitation. Instead, the rain eased, and the track quickly dried, forcing early pit stops for all seven drivers. This immediately put Hulkenberg, who finished P12, and Bortoleto, P13, on the back foot.
Hulkenberg called it "a risk worth taking" given the information at the time, but admitted they lacked the pace to recover after the unplanned stop. Bortoleto concurred, noting the extra stop derailed their race. Audi remains P9 in the constructors' standings, with only Bortoleto's P9 in Australia earning points this year. The team needs to quickly find answers if they hope to climb the grid and avoid another frustrating weekend.
