The FIA's new AWS partnership puts AI at the center of how F1 writes its aerodynamic rules. Amazon becomes the governing body's official cloud and machine learning partner, bringing faster CFD simulations on modern GPU hardware and AI tools to check the rulebook itself. The payoff is speed—surrogate models trained on hundreds of past CFD runs can predict aero outcomes in seconds instead of hours, letting the FIA test far more wing shapes and floor geometries per draft ruleset. Beyond aero, AI will monitor telemetry for anomaly detection, flagging when oil pressure or other traces deviate from normal patterns. Work has already begun on concepts for the next generation of cars, potentially arriving in 2030. Generative AI that could prompt-engineer a car design isn't ready yet—right now the tools accelerate human work rather than replace it—but FIA deputy technical director Dominic Harlow says it's coming. The compute power exists; the training models just need time.
