Alpine has appointed Jason Somerville as their new Deputy Technical Director, reinforcing the team’s technical leadership. Somerville, who previously worked in Enstone’s aerodynamics department in 2010-2011, returns with a rich F1 pedigree. His career includes stints at Williams, where he led their aerodynamics, and Toyota as Deputy Head of Aerodynamics. He also contributed to developing the 2022 technical regulations at Formula One Management before becoming the FIA’s Head of Aerodynamics in 2022.
Reporting to Executive Technical Director David Sanchez, Somerville is "relishing the opportunity to be back in the thick of it, hunting milliseconds." Sanchez emphasized Somerville's experience will help Alpine "take even further steps to better our performance in the latest Formula 1 development race." This appointment signals Alpine's drive for improvement after a challenging period, as they currently sit fifth in the standings with 23 points scored across the first four rounds. The focus now shifts to how Somerville's expertise will translate into on-track gains for the French squad.
