ALPINE SUCCEED IN FIRST STAGE OF RIGHT OF REVIEW REQUEST OVER GASLY’S PENALTIES

Alpine's Right of Review request for Pierre Gasly's Monaco penalties cleared its first hurdle, with FIA stewards approving a full hearing. Gasly originally finished P3 but two five-second pit lane speeding penalties dropped him to P7. Alpine successfully argued they had "significant and relevant new evidence."

The crucial point: Formula 1's official timekeeping supplier, FOM, admitted the distance used in calculating pit lane speeds was inaccurate and "overestimated the speed of car 10." Alpine also claimed FIA and FOM were aware of timing loop issues before the race, though this was refuted by both. With the initial review approved, the stewards now proceed to a second hearing to determine if Gasly's penalties will be overturned. American team Haas was present at the hearing. A reversal would restore Gasly’s podium and could prompt a wider review of pit lane speed detection, potentially impacting other drivers penalized under the same system.
