Aston Martin is done developing the 2026 car. Chief technical officer Enrico Cardile confirmed the aero package rolled out across Hungary and Zandvoort marks the final planned updates, with the team now focused on a weight-saving programme that should conclude around Baku. The AMR26 still sits above the minimum weight limit, but the cuts so far have "dramatically improved lap time."
The shift comes as Honda ramps up power unit development. The Japanese manufacturer delivered a meaningful upgrade at Zandvoort that helped Fernando Alonso to ninth — the team's best finish this year — and has more hardware and software improvements queued. Cardile acknowledged Monza will "fully expose our car's weaknesses" given its reliance on low drag and straight-line speed, but the bigger bet is on 2027. After Baku, they'll run the final spec through the season while development shifts entirely to next year's car, where the real performance leap needs to happen.
