Haas endured a brutal start to the Australian Grand Prix weekend, with rookie Oliver Bearman crashing out of FP1 and the team’s VF-24 drastically underperforming expectations. Bearman’s “small mistake” at Turn 10, which he attributed to feeling “too confident” on the bumpy circuit, sidelined him for FP2 as mechanics couldn't fully repair the car in time. This left the American team with limited data, exacerbating an already difficult situation.

Team Principal Ayao Komatsu didn't mince words, calling it a "difficult day" and admitting the performance was “not what we were expecting.” Esteban Ocon confirmed the struggles, with his best lap six tenths slower than the next closest competitor. While Ocon felt a step was made between sessions, the car's balance was still off. He believes the team now has a "clear" direction for Saturday, but the Haas outfit needs a significant overnight turnaround to climb off the bottom of the timesheets.
