Sauber confirms an all-new driver lineup for 2025, with both Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu departing. Formula 2 points leader Gabriel Bortoleto will join Nico Hulkenberg, announced from Haas. This marks a full reset for the team ahead of its Audi takeover in 2026.
Bortoleto, released by McLaren, previously won the F3 title and currently leads the F2 championship. Should he secure the F2 crown, he’ll be the first F2 champion since Mick Schumacher in 2021 to immediately graduate to F1. He also becomes the first Brazilian full-time F1 driver since Felipe Massa in 2017.
Neither Bottas nor Zhou has scored a point this season in the struggling C44 chassis, making their departures unsurprising. Bottas, a 10-time Grand Prix winner, and Zhou, the first Chinese F1 driver, are now left searching for seats. This move underscores Sauber's commitment to a fresh start before becoming Audi's factory team.
