Ollie Bearman's lunge on Pierre Gasly through Turn 13 at COTA looked innocuous but wrecked both drivers' races. The Haas rookie moved inside as the VSC ended, made contact, and picked up a 10-second penalty plus floor damage that cost him a second per lap before he retired. Gasly limped home P10 with his own broken floor, estimating the touch cost 5-10 seconds of race time.

Bearman didn't apologize. "I don't regret going for the move," he said, pointing to Haas's midfield deficit. "If we don't do something special and get a bit lucky, be aggressive and go for it, then we're not going to score points because we're not fast enough to do that on merit." Gasly called it "a little optimistic" but not crazy—just not clean enough.

For Haas, the American team's pace problem means more desperation moves ahead. That calculus doesn't change at Mexico City.
