Kimi Antonelli put his Mercedes on pole for Sunday's US Grand Prix and can clinch the championship in Austin with a win. The 20-year-old found pace when it mattered after a quiet run through practice, pulling clear when Ferrari couldn't convert practice domination into qualifying speed. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton could only manage fourth and fifth after sweeping Friday's timing sheets — another case of the Scuderia looking quick in sessions that don't count.

George Russell slumped to sixth, more than four tenths off his teammate after a Turn 11 slide torpedoed his first Q3 run. Isack Hadjar delivered Red Bull's first convincing second-seat performance in years with third, while McLaren imploded. Lando Norris called the MCL41 "insanely difficult to drive; probably the hardest car I've ever had to drive in my life." He and Oscar Piastri qualified seventh and eighth, nearly eight tenths adrift.

Antonelli's title coronation — at a US Grand Prix, no less — now looks like a Sunday formality.
