FIA SETS DATE FOR MCLAREN AND RED BULL'S MONACO GP APPEAL

The FIA will hear McLaren and Red Bull's appeals against Pierre Gasly's reinstated Monaco podium on Tuesday, August 25 in Paris. The flashpoint: Alpine successfully argued that Formula One Management's pitlane distance measurement error over-reported speeds, prompting stewards to rescind two five-second penalties that had dropped Gasly from third to seventh in June. The Frenchman got his podium back three months later.

The decision detonated across the grid because at least five other drivers served identical penalties during the race. Oscar Piastri made an extra stop to serve his, finished fifth, and called the reversal "astonishing." George Russell absorbed the worst of it—a botched penalty procedure triggered a drive-through that dropped him from podium contention to twelfth, opening a 68-point gap to teammate Kimi Antonelli. Mercedes launched its own right of review but withdrew it, conceding stewards won't unwind Russell's result. If the appeals succeed, Gasly's podium vanishes and Red Bull's Isack Hadjar returns to third.
