FIA TO HEAR RED BULL AND MCLAREN’S APPEAL OVER GASLY’S PENALTIES NEXT WEEK

Red Bull and McLaren are taking Pierre Gasly's Monaco podium to court. The FIA's International Court of Appeal will hear their case August 25th in Paris, where both teams will argue to reinstate the two five-second penalties Gasly received for pit lane speeding.

The mess started when Gasly was penalized post-race for hitting 60.1 and 60.4 kph in a 60 kph zone. Alpine requested a review, and stewards discovered the pit lane had been measured incorrectly all weekend. They rescinded the penalties, handing Gasly third place and bumping Red Bull's Isack Hadjar and McLaren's Oscar Piastri down the order. The twist: other drivers who broke the same speed limit served their penalties during the race.

The appeal hinges on whether a measurement error excuses a violation everyone else paid for in real time. If the penalties stick, Gasly keeps the podium. If they're reinstated, Alpine loses points and Hadjar or Piastri reclaim third.
