Christian Horner dropped a podcast grenade this week, claiming George Russell, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri all paid Red Bull to run its simulator as juniors — and that Red Bull passed on all three despite being told they were faster than the academy drivers already on the books. Horner says he flagged it to Helmut Marko, who wasn't interested.

Russell, now second in the championship with Mercedes, pushed back ahead of Austin. In 2013, he explained, junior teams didn't have simulators. Paying for track time on Red Bull's rig was prep for Formula Renault testing, not an audition. No drama, just context — though it doesn't make Red Bull look any smarter for skipping three drivers who've combined for multiple wins and a championship fight.

The timing stings. Red Bull's driver pipeline has faltered since its Verstappen jackpot, and Horner's out. Russell, Norris and Piastri are thriving elsewhere, and Austin kicks off three straight race weekends that could decide whether any of them close the gap to Verstappen.
