Ferrari hit Interlagos with their worst Friday of 2026, and Lewis Hamilton will pay for it with a grid penalty after the team planned engine component changes post-FP2. The seven-time champion was 0.450s off Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes benchmark, while Charles Leclerc sat nearly three tenths back, hampered by a deployment issue.

The long run picture looked grimmer: Ferrari managed only fourth-best pace, with Leclerc over half a second per lap slower than Antonelli on identical tyres. Hamilton bled three tenths on the Juncao straight alone. Leclerc called the car's balance "one of the worst Friday feelings of the season," and team boss Fred Vasseur admitted "a lot of work to do" overnight.

The constructors' math is brutal. Ferrari can't afford to be outscored by Mercedes by three points, or the title gets sealed this weekend. With Antonelli quickest on both short and long runs, and George Russell also carrying a penalty, that margin looks dangerously thin.
