Lando Norris reversed course on his Singapore sprint collision with Oscar Piastri, accepting full blame Sunday after defending the move a day earlier. The teammates clashed on the final lap fighting for fourth and fifth, with Norris diving inside at Turn 5 and making contact that left McLaren with just one point. Team principal Andrea Stella called it "unacceptable" and promised a full review.
Norris's Saturday interview went viral when he asked a journalist "What's after sprint?" before insisting he had the right to attempt the pass. But after finishing fourth in the grand prix, Norris changed his tune. "I should never have attempted it in the first place," he said. "It was a mistake on my part and I let down the team. I owe them all an apology."
The about-face suggests Stella's intervention worked. With McLaren hunting the constructors' championship, they can't afford teammates trading paint for minor sprint positions.
