McLaren has formally lodged an appeal against Alpine’s successful Right of Review that reinstated Pierre Gasly to third place at the Monaco Grand Prix. Gasly initially finished P3 but was demoted to P7 after receiving two five-second penalties for pit lane speeding. Alpine presented new evidence, leading the stewards to overturn the penalties and restore Gasly’s podium.
This decision impacts McLaren directly, as Oscar Piastri, who also incurred and served a pit lane speeding penalty in Monaco, was initially P5. He moved up to P4 when Gasly was penalized, then dropped back to P5 with Gasly’s reinstatement. McLaren argues the reversal raises "important questions concerning sporting fairness, regulatory consistency, and the integrity of competition." They believe removing penalties disadvantages teams who followed the rules and served their punishments. This appeal is a fight for consistent application of the FIA Sporting Regulations.
