McLaren sponsor DP World has replaced its chairman, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, following revelations of his long-standing association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Dubai government announced new appointments without mentioning bin Sulayem, whose name surfaced in unredacted court documents linked to Epstein. Emails show bin Sulayem maintaining contact with Epstein years after his 2008 conviction, including an unsettling 2009 message from Epstein: "Where are you? are you ok, I loved the torture video."
Kentucky Republican Representative Thomas Massie exposed bin Sulayem’s connection, which also included swapping details on escort services. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem is the brother of FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. The fallout is already impacting DP World, with financial partners like British International Investment pausing their dealings with the logistics giant. DP World, a McLaren partner since 2023, has since scrubbed all mentions of bin Sulayem from its corporate website. This scandal casts a long shadow, potentially creating an uncomfortable dynamic for McLaren and the broader F1 paddock, especially given the FIA President's familial link.
