Nico Rosberg backed Mercedes' call to swap George Russell and Kimi Antonelli at Zandvoort, even as Russell protested it risked both podiums. After a red-flag restart and late VSC, Antonelli pitted for softs while Russell stayed out. The team ordered Russell to yield, fearing he'd hold up his teammate and surrender both spots to Ferrari. Russell complied, then had to fend off Lewis Hamilton—now in red—and Charles Leclerc to hold third.

Rosberg, who let Hamilton past in Monaco 2016 during their title fight, called it textbook team play. Russell conceded afterward that Antonelli deserved it.
