Lando Norris misjudged the rulebook in Singapore. The McLaren driver assumed Lewis Hamilton would have to surrender position after the Ferrari went off track defending at turn one, but the stewards saw it differently. Both drivers left the circuit during the battle, and because Norris also ran wide while attempting the pass, the stewards ruled his overtake attempt illegitimate. No position swap required. Hamilton kept the spot—though both drivers lost out to Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who inherited the place they were fighting over.

Norris admitted afterward he "didn't need to try and overtake him where I did," the latest in a weekend of poor calls. He'd already tangled with teammate Oscar Piastri in Saturday's sprint. The pattern is the problem: decisive on pure pace, inconsistent in racecraft when the pressure climbs. With the championship still live and Austin two weeks out, Norris can't afford to gift away positions through misread situations or late-braking gambles that don't stick.
