Oscar Piastri wants wins, and he thinks McLaren can deliver them. The Australian's 2026 has swung wildly—DNFs in Australia and China, podiums in Japan and Miami, then back outside the points twice. At Hungary before the break, he'd snatched the lead from Lando Norris before contact with Carlos Sainz and a gearbox failure ended his day. Norris won; Piastri's still hunting victory number one.
McLaren are eight-tenths off Mercedes under the new regulations, a gap that left Norris 51 seconds behind George Russell in the opener. But Piastri's banking on Woking's proven turnaround ability. In 2024, a Miami upgrade package flipped the script, carrying McLaren from midfield to their first constructors' title since 1998. The blueprint's there. Now it's about executing it again—getting Piastri back to the sharp end where he spent 2025 chasing a title. If McLaren find the pace, he'll be ready.
