Silverstone Museum has unveiled "Black Cats & Chequered Flags," a year-long immersive exhibition honoring two-time F1 world champion Alberto Ascari. This virtual and mixed reality experience offers an interactive dive into Ascari's storied career, exploring his infamous superstitions like the cursed number 26 and the black cats associated with his legend. Visitors can virtually participate in a simulated 1950s pitstop and race alongside the Ferrari legend at Monza, complete with period-accurate audio and visuals.
The installation, which premiered at the Ferrari Museum and was selected for the Venice International Film Festival, highlights Ascari's unique place in F1. He remains the only Italian driver to secure multiple world championships with Ferrari and the sport's most recent Italian champion. Ascari's deep connection to Silverstone is also showcased, having won two championship Grands Prix there in 1952 and 1953. This exhibition further cements Silverstone's role in F1 history, ensuring a new generation connects with a true pioneer.
