Lando Norris walked away from a last-lap collision with Oscar Piastri at Singapore's sprint without penalty after stewards ruled both McLaren drivers contributed to the incident. Norris sent a late lunge down the inside of Turn 5 on lap 20, clipping Piastri's right-rear and spinning both cars. Piastri was out with significant rear damage; Norris salvaged eighth.
The stewards' verdict hinged on shared blame. Piastri didn't expect the move and turned in. Norris argued his front axle was ahead of Piastri's mirror before the apex, earning him space, but the gap closed faster than anticipated. Neither driver was "wholly or predominantly" at fault.
McLaren's mechanics scrambled to rebuild Piastri's car before qualifying, fitting a new gearbox penalty-free under parc fermé rules. The papaya-on-papaya incident cost points the team can't afford to drop with the constructors' fight tightening. The real price gets paid in the debrief.
