Pirelli brings a softer tyre allocation to the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix this weekend, opting for the C2 (hard), C3 (medium), and C4 (soft) compounds. This selection marks a step softer than usual for the Spanish circuit. The strategic choice aims to encourage more pit stops and ensure the hard compound remains a viable option in race strategies, particularly with higher track temperatures anticipated given the later race date.
Barcelona’s high-speed corners and abrasive asphalt place significant stress on tyres, with the front axle typically being the limiting factor for degradation. Teams will receive two sets of hard, three medium, and eight soft tyres, plus an extra soft for Q3 qualifiers. Drivers must use at least two different slick compounds during the race. Following the Grand Prix, Pirelli will conduct a two-day slick tyre test at Montmeló with Ferrari, Aston Martin, and the American Cadillac team, potentially impacting future tyre development and Cadillac's F1 entry.
