Hamilton's Singapore nightmare came down to a single VSC call he didn't take. Ferrari radioed both drivers to pit when Lance Stroll triggered the caution, but Hamilton never came in — whether from a radio glitch, a missed pit entry, or a judgment call depends on who's telling the story. Ferrari says they made the call at Turn 16. Hamilton's onboard went silent through the period, then he later told the team he "missed the entry." Either way, the damage was done.

He doubled down by pushing for a one-stop on soft tyres already past their prime, running them 10 laps longer than anyone up front. Ferrari pleaded for him to cut losses with a late two-stop. He refused. The softs cratered in the final 10 laps — every lap over 1:38.6 while the field ran 1-2 seconds faster. Piastri, on an unplanned puncture stop, still caught and passed him. Hamilton took full responsibility post-race, but the missed VSC window turned a podium into sixth and a lot of questions heading to Austin.
