Fernando Alonso fears Aston Martin's "random downshifts" could trigger crashes at the Monaco Grand Prix. The two-time champion voiced concerns over the unpredictability of their powertrain, specifically the gearbox, which can cause rear locking or unintended engine push on Monaco’s tight streets. This problem, linked to Aston Martin's new Honda customer engines and self-made gearboxes, first became prominent in Miami qualifying, where Alonso was significantly off pace.

Teammate Lance Stroll reported a slight improvement in Canada, but the car still loses gear sync below 40km/h, a critical flaw for Monaco's slow corners like the Loews hairpin. Alonso stated drivers "will look stupid" if these random shifts lead to a wall strike. Given the car's current form and this persistent issue, Alonso is not optimistic about scoring points in Monaco, viewing the top five teams as too far ahead. Aston Martin must resolve these powertrain inconsistencies quickly before facing the ultimate test of precision.
