Carlos Sainz pulled no punches, declaring the Williams FW48 is fundamentally slow, not just overweight. Even shedding its significant excess mass, the car would still be a second off the frontrunners, leaving them far from competitive. Williams, who finished fifth last season and aimed to establish a new baseline, now languish in eighth, their gap to the leaders widening.

The primary issue isn't just weight from a failed crash test, but a severe lack of efficient downforce, particularly in medium and high-speed corners. Despite more wind tunnel allocation under F1's Aerodynamic Testing Regulations, Williams hasn't made the necessary step forward. Sainz insists they must go "back to the drawing board" as the team faces a daunting task to recover their form and avoid a further slide down the Constructors' standings.
