Ferrari will introduce a significant turbocharger upgrade after F1's summer break, utilizing their second ADUO engine development credit. This follows a first round of updates implemented in Austria, both aimed at closing their performance gap. The FIA granted Ferrari these development opportunities after determining their power unit lagged Red Bull-Ford by over 4%.
For Austria, Ferrari launched a "hot engine" concept, using steel-alloy cylinder heads to run combustion at 110C. This design improves efficiency and power output, also allowing for smaller radiators. The upcoming turbo update directly addresses a strategic weakness: Ferrari's initial small turbo, designed to reduce lag, was effectively neutralized by the FIA's pre-start procedure. The new turbo, expected around Zandvoort or Monza, will feature redesigned blades and new materials. This aggressive development push is critical for Ferrari to challenge the benchmark power units from Mercedes and Red Bull, potentially gaining an early edge heading into the 2026 regulations.
