George Russell believes the 2026 F1 regulations will make racing, particularly at Monaco, far more "on the limit." The Mercedes driver champions the upcoming changes, which feature a lighter, more nimble chassis, reduced from 800kg to 768kg. Russell believes these cars will allow drivers to push harder and facilitate closer wheel-to-wheel battles, citing his recent duels with Kimi Antonelli in Canada and Charles Leclerc in Australia as proof. He claims the new car "feels more like a race car" and is "more intuitive," enabling more aggressive driving.
Despite Mercedes dominating the season's five races, Antonelli holds a 43-point lead over Russell. Russell’s Canadian GP retirement from the lead due to a power unit failure won't shake his resolve. He contends bad luck is part of any championship fight, referencing past champions like Max Verstappen and Lando Norris who overcame adversity. Russell expects Antonelli will also face his own share of setbacks before the season concludes, keeping the title race alive.
