McLaren has formally appealed the Monaco Grand Prix stewards' decision to cancel Pierre Gasly's pit lane speeding penalties. This move, which reinstated Gasly to third place, directly impacts McLaren, dropping Oscar Piastri from fourth to fifth in the final classification. Stewards initially penalized Gasly, but Alpine successfully argued a Right of Review, claiming the pit lane length was incorrectly measured. Consequently, Gasly's two five-second penalties were rescinded.

McLaren's appeal centers on sporting fairness and regulatory consistency. Other drivers, including Piastri, received and served similar five-second pit lane penalties during the race. McLaren argues that overturning Gasly's penalty creates inequity, as some competitors acted according to rules applied at the time, while others retroactively benefited. This challenge isn't against Gasly but targets the integrity of regulation enforcement. Mercedes has also requested a Right of Review for Russell's penalty, and Red Bull is considering an appeal. The outcome will significantly test the FIA's consistent application of rules.
