McLaren is rolling out an experimental "upside-down" rear wing for Friday practice at the Austrian Grand Prix. The Woking team follows rivals Ferrari and Red Bull, who previously tested similar concepts. Ferrari debuted a rotating 180-degree wing in winter testing, while Red Bull ran their version at the Miami Grand Prix.

McLaren's test is purely for data collection; the new wing isn't expected to feature beyond Friday sessions this weekend. Technical director Neil Houldey confirmed the "experimental rear wing" is part of their continuous development push, alongside other minor aerodynamic refinements. McLaren has made significant strides with recent upgrades, closing the gap to Mercedes, especially after strong showings at North American races. However, Ferrari’s own development has positioned them as a serious contender, with both Lando Norris and Andrea Stella calling the SF-26 the sport's best chassis right now. This new test shows McLaren's commitment to finding every last tenth, potentially unlocking further performance to challenge for wins as the season progresses.
