Red Bull Team Principal Laurent Mekies expects Mexico City's extreme altitude to produce a "one-off" competitive order this weekend, with power unit performance and cooling compromises in the thin air shuffling the usual pecking order. Every team will operate below optimum — PUs struggling at 2km above sea level, chassis hunting for temperature balance — and Mekies admits Red Bull has no idea if they'll gain or lose. They already burned FP1 time with an Isack Hadjar PU failure, though that wasn't altitude-related.
On infrastructure, Mekies confirmed the team's new Milton Keynes wind tunnel won't fire up until sometime in 2027, likely impacting the second half of that year's car and the full 2028 program. The current Bedford facility is the oldest on the grid — Verstappen once joked it dates to World War II — and the upgrade should unlock aero potential once calibrated.
Mexico's chaos could offer a preview of who adapted fastest to the compromise game.
